Why does everything change? - Because life is like this! - Nothing at all has a permanent character... (S. Rinpoche)

Our whole existence is fleeting like clouds in the autumn, - birth and death of the beings appear like movements in the dance... (Buddha)

One of the main reasons why we are so afraid to face death is that we ignore the truth of transience - We desperately wish everything could go on as before - and that is why we must firmly believe that things remain as they are...
But this is self-deception. And as we have to discover too often - faith has little or nothing to do with reality...
No matter how often the truth intervenes - we prefer with desperate courage to keep our illusion...
For us, change is equated with loss and suffering - and when change happens, we try to numb ourselves as much as possible...
Stubborn and without asking, we adhere to the assumption - that durability gives security, but transience does not...
The realization of transience is, paradoxically, the only thing we can hold on to - perhaps our only permanent possession...
What is born will die, what has been collected will be scattered, what has accumulated will be exhausted, what has been built will break down, and what is high will be low...
Does not everything that we have done in the past - seem today like a dream?
The only thing we really have - is the here and now...
Do I remember at any moment that I will die, as well as everyone else? - And by this realization, do I treat all living beings with compassion at any time?
Don't you know that we all must die? - It is only a matter of time - some die earlier than others... (S. Rinpoche)
