Part 98... by Golden Snow

The following week Wayne found a beautiful apartment. It was in a small apartment building with three other families. The thing I liked most about it that it was on the ground floor, and the garden doors opened unto a beautiful brook. A short walk brought one to a dam. It was nosy and beautiful. I decided to take this one because it gave me a place to walk and a place to dance. The move was easy except for the water bed which I had purchased. I really loved the bed because it was easy on the body and warm at night. Wayne knew a removal company to make the move, so it was an easy transition.

Wayne brought supper in the first night. We sat by the large window and watched the river until it was dark. I never asked him to leave. We just settled in, and it seemed to stay that way. There were no demands put on me, but I would feel him looking at me from time to time. I trusted him and told him so. He took the smallest bedroom because the water bed was big. He went to work and so did I. Each night we never went straight home but detoured to make sure we were not being followed. Danny was afraid I would have sent him back in the hospital if he bothered me, but I saw him in the mall a lot. He still called me at work. He never spoke but I knew it was him. I had more contact with my sons and started bringing my grandchildren back on the week-ends. Life seemed to be going well and I felt more relaxed.

I was leaving work one night and found Danny waiting by my car. I felt the fear passing through me. "Just listen to me, I will not stand by and have you enjoying your life with no thought of how the family feels." "You are living in sin, and taking the grandchildren into it with you." I said: "Danny I am not living in sin, just protected." "Like hell, he said, he is not hanging around for nothing." "I think you better get a divorce." I answered: "Okay, we can do that." His face turned red, and he grabbed my arm. "You are catholic, and there is no divorce." As I stared at him he said: "You will pay for it, and I want the house signed over to me also." I looked him straight in the eyes, "if that’s what it takes Danny, I will do it." This seemed to make him more angry. He grabbed me by both arms. He was hurting me. I pulled to get away, and he hit me on the side of my face, turned and left. I was shaking when I started the car and headed home...
