When eating, sex, work and dependency on people, things are different - You can not stop eating, drinking, having sex, working or living without people - Here total abstinence would mean death - Every addiction must be cured in their own way - but also commonalities are to be found - A commonality consists in the capitulation of the grandiose will... - The most effective way to bring about the collapse of the walls of our shame is through pain and suffering - Pain is a reliable teacher. We have built our defenses to cover our pain and avoid our suffering - When we experience suffering and pain that are greater than the pain we try to avoid, the walls will begin to collapse... - We must learn only day after day... - Asking for help is something that no shameful man would bring to heart - shame believes that one has no right to be dependent on others and to ask for help... - Internalized shame is irreparable. That is why it has to be brought out - i.e. to think in relative terms its grandiose claims... - Healing makes the experience of emotions necessary - What you do not feel, you can not heal... - Then you can laugh again - and you are not so terrible dramatic and serious...
