Salvador Dali Paintings - Analysis and interpretations

Thank you JT for your comment - I believe that Dali's paintings express the spirit of his time (see Zeitgeist), if one compares the emergence of the images and the historical reality. That Dali should have preferred South America, is new to me, and I have found no evidence till now - I chose dali48 as a pseudonym for my books, because it is easy to remember. As favorite artists, I still prefer the Impressionists, such as e.g. Monet, etc... (d.48)

Hi dali48,
I believe the painting you are referring to is the Persistence of Memory by Dali in which soft watches are nothing more then tender extravagant unnatural devices in the panoramic landscape much like the persistence of our memories having no baring on our future. It is of course one of my favorite surrealistic paintings of the time. Dali was very anti atomic and progressive and very pro natural.
He not only lived with his wife Gala but they both lived with his mistress as rather bohemenias.
You know Nietzsce', "Good artists and good people should never be confused". I believe this applies ot Dali as well. His brillinace is indisputeable but he also favored South America over North America.
I taught my son all bout this painter when he was younger as well as the Dutch reniassance painters and the French Painters.
Great Hub. Really enjoyed it.
JT

Thank you goprisca for your comment... and thank you Polly for your admiration of men like this... (d.48)

Nice hub Thanks for sharing.

I admire any man who has any praise for his wife, it is a scarce and refreshing thing to hear.
Polly

Thank you for your Comment - I'm sure there's much about Dali I don't know yet - I choose dali48 as pseudonym because its easy to pronounce and to remember. As a student in Tübingen I first read a book about Dali and was fascinated by his surrealistic paintings. During a camping holiday in Spain we visited his museum in Cadaques etc. This summer I found a thick biography about him in the City Library of Stuttgart - there are always new facettes and details... (d.48)

..what can I say about Dali that you probably don't already know .....we have a mutual friend Doug Dunigan who is a world class artist and photographer and he is a real big fan of the man - I also love Rene Magritte!
There is a really great video of Salvador Dali on the TV game show - What's my line - you can find it on You Tube.
In closing thanks for your passion, your intelligence and obvious great taste in art ...... keep on truckin' ...

Thank you for your comment - all my other 230 Hubs are suddenly degraded, under 55 score (62 to 33), and unpublished... (d.48)

Beautiful and touching Hub, thank you.
BTW, what happened to your another Hubs?
