When we accept death, change our attitude towards life, and understand the fundamental link between life and death - a very special possibility for healing can arise from it...
Tibetan Buddhists believe that diseases such as cancer can be warnings - to remind us that we have neglected deep areas of our being - such as our spiritual needs. If we take this warning seriously and fundamentally change the direction of our life - there is justified hope for healing not only of our body, but of our entire being...
Those who hold onto concrete reality are pitiful:
Focus the awareness on the inside - friends of my heart...
We idealize freedom - but our habits are slavish...
I walk along the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I go around it - I go another street...
Contemplation about death will give us a deeper sense of what we call "renunciation." - This renunciation, to which we come, contains both joy and grief:
Grief because we recognize the futility of our old ways - joy because of the greater vision that begins to unfold as soon as we let go of the old habits...
If we keep things for the long term, we exclude the possibility of learning by changes - we are then hardened and begin to grasp and hold on - this grasping and holding is the source of all our problems...
We are afraid to let go - we are afraid to really live, because learn to live means learn to let go - There is a tragic comedy in our convulsive holding on:
It is not only in vain, but it gives us exactly the pain - which we want to avoid at any cost...
