26.05.2001 - Interpretation of dali48
Our lack of mutual respect is not only specific to family systems - we bring the lessons from our home into a modern social structure - which often shows the same lack of respect for individuals, communities and nature - as the disturbed family for its members... (C. Grof)
How do we survive in a world that does not recognize and respect our sacred uniqueness? - We produce skillful survival strategies that remove, numb, or bypass our pain - to defend against the external sources of our difficulties... - Many of them (see abused children, etc. - d.48) develop a well-tuned radar, an intuitive, or perverse "scanner" - helping them to anticipate threats, to look through them, and to maneuver them out - Intuition comes from our deeper "self" (see phylogenetic and ontogenetic subconsciousness, etc. - d.48) from the spiritual sources beyond our ordinary abilities... - We escape the pain around us by retreating to a safe haven of imagination, illusions, or the transpersonal realms... - By the temporary withdrawal from daily life, wounded children defend, preserve and strengthen themselves - They protect themselves by splitting off their consciousness of the rest of their being so that they do not have to take account of their actual circumstances or have to deal with them - This inner refuge (see inner emigration, day dreams, etc. - d.48) provides security and comfort to the child... - It reflects its unconscious attempt to care for itself... - In this inner realm, it can feel a sort of "divine" support, a mystical care... - which provides unconditional consolation and a connection as it can not get in its external world - This can even be its first mystical experience - Researchers have found that there is a mechanism by which the consciousness of the victim is detached from its terrible condition when the pain reaches a certain point (see, for example, the near-death experience when the consciousness is floating outside the body, etc. - d.48)... - The victim suddenly changes its consciousness into a state - which exists beyond pain. It transcends the agony and often experiences an ecstatic state in the midst of chaos... - We discover that we can emerge from the present reality whenever pain occurs - We remove ourselves when our social or sexual relations with partners are difficult, when conversations contain unpleasant information, or when we visit a place where we do not want to be... - These children discover that the power of the mind is so great that it can successfully lead them away from physical pain and the intensity of their anxiety, anger, sadness and confusion - Often they close their emotions and physical needs out of reach in favor of an overactive intellect... - Victims consider themselves as those who have suffered great injustice - The world is conspiring against them. They feel themselves exposed to the intentions of the people around them - In this way they get rid of the responsibility for their problems - The trouble is always someone else's fault, and the victim suffers and endures it only... - Instead of letting our anger out - we become angry with ourselves, or turn into depression - The lonelier we become, the more we yearn, consciously or unconsciously, according to our divine roots (our totality). Our perception of reality can be imposed by a veil of unhappiness, depending on how much abuse we have endured - Many of us see the world through a selective negative filter, often without being aware of it... - Somewhere deep inside we recognize that we are hiding us - that we are lying behind the false identity created by us. Through our own shame, we hold ourselves more or less isolated and protected - We guard ourselves from the pain that comes from relationships with other people - We hide so that no one will know the naked truth about our shortcomings (mistakes)... - We are afraid to be abandoned professionally or to be abandoned in a relationship... - Just as shame awakens suspicion in ourselves, so anxiety feeds our distrust into others, in the life process and even in "God"... - Inner fulfillment can not be obtained through external sources... - Sobriety (everyday consciousness) differentiates and says no - and drunkenness expands, creates unity and says yes... - We can no longer reach the source of our inspiration and creativity, the peace, the joy and the love that were once accessible to us from within. When we reach the depths of our addiction, we are in hell... - Many of us do not die physically, but remain between the tremendous despair that tells us we should die and the immense fear of death... (W. James)
