One day I went to the store to just look around and get out of the house. On the way home there was a heavy snow falling. I drove toward my son's home and I felt dizzy. So I pulled over to the side of the road. I must have had a convulsion because when I opened my eyes I was almost under the steering wheel, and my left hand was sore. I believe from hitting on the side of the car. I became very nervous and scared that I could not remember where I lived. I sat for a time and was trying to clear my mind. I heard my pager go off, and it was my daughter-in-law. She asked where I was, so I told her what was around me, and I followed her instructions.
I remember of getting lost a lot. I could not figure out where I lived even if I was in Ontario or Nova Scotia. It was awful, and I was sure that I was losing my mind. I awoke at night and reached over to feel and see if Wayne was beside me, and then cried myself to sleep again. The children bounced me back and forth for months, and my sweet friend was always there. It felt like I was living the same day over and over, and nothing mattered. I sat in a room with people and never heard what they said.
When I awoke in the night there was silence, and no one was breathing beside me. Sometimes I screamed out loud and sat on the side of the bed and wept. I was staying with my friend one week-end, and I was helping in the kitchen with supper. I laid down whatever I had and asked my friend if she would drive me home. I had left my car at home as I was not sure if I was taking convolutions or not. Everyone thought that it would be best if I did not drive. She was not happy with leaving me alone there but I knew that it had been too soon. After she left I roamed through the house and looked at all of Wayne's things which were laying there waiting for him. Tears flowed. How would I ever live without him. He had looked after me, and I had felt safe...
