The intimate is the innermost - and is always based on a relationship to "God" - to a friend or partner - to familiar people or things - without which we do not feel ourselves as ourselves - not at home... (ARTE, Philosophy 27.10.2009)

After the war in 1945 he (S. Quasimodo, 1901-1968) joined the Italian Communist party, but resigned in protest - when the party insisted that he should write political poems...

Quasimodo's first wife Bice Donetti died in 1948 - and he married the dancer Maria Cumani - They separated permanently in 1960 - His daughter Orietta was born out of wedlock in 1935 to Amelia Specialetti - Quasimodo's last 4 volumes of verse show a continuing concern for social justice - but there are also fond memories of past friends and past loves - His last book of verse was Dare e Avere (1966, To Give and to Have)...

A modernist but acutely conscious of the tension between tradition and innovation - he wrote many essays on literature and translated classical writers and drama - among them such writers as W. Shakespeare, Molière (Tartuffe), Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Virgil, Catullus... (On S. Quasimodo from P.A.C.)

The monastery is saved, and so Kleist "still existed until the end of the 30-year war" - The archbishop of Treves noted that Cecilia had even done this miracle - the pope confirmed it some years later. Patroness of church music, the organist, organ builder, instrument maker, singer, musician and poet - Memorial day: November, 22...

"Cecilia in a white dress / reminder of the winter time"... (St Cecilia, Orthodox Wiki)

Interpretation of dali48

Doctor Zhivago has been recognized by many as the greatest Russian novel of the 20th century - It is partly autobiography and partly epic novel, a many-layered story starting from the year 1903 - when Iuri Zhivago's mother died...

The story ends with a short episode, occurring "5 or 10 years" after WWII - in which Zhivago's old friends contemplate the fate of their country...

Pasternak's disagreement with Soviet Communism was not political but rather based on his aesthetic views - he couldn't fully accept official literary doctrines developed from a theory of class struggle - but followed his own principles...

Pasternak remained at Peredelkino, a writer's colony - about 20 miles outside of Moscow...

Pasternak died from lung cancer on May 30, 1960... (On B. Pasternak from P.A.C.)
