28.10.1997 - Interpretation of dali48
Everything depends on our inner self-realization - A wise man will see "Nirvana" immediately in the ordinary things of everyday life - A fool will philosophize about it and think it is something else, something special - But an old pine preaches wisdom, and a wild bird chirps the truth...
Bodhidharma's influence was not based on what he was doing, but on what he was - And in none of the conversations with his disciples handed down to us, he makes a statement about his teaching - The truth was that Bodhidharma's wisdom could only be transmitted to a person which was prepared for it - Only those who so much demanded that they were willing to give everything like Shang Kwang could understand it - For the rest it was nonsense - Perhaps the secret of the Zen humor and the Tao was that neither Zen nor Taoism took the objective world particularly seriously - They made fun of the clumsy understanding and of all kinds of formality and solemnity - The spirit lacks any weight, any gravity, and any seriousness! - Drudgery and suffering are only judged by the flesh, by passion, and man knows pain and suffering only as a sentient and emotional being! - Scriptures and teachings were good as long as they were seen as mere tools - And the Zen master compared them with a finger pointing to the moon - A fool is who holds the finger for the moon! - Zen renounced external supports of religion - since such are capable of misleading the people...
