02.06.2001 - Interpretation of dali48

It is our sticking that underlie our unhappiness and our feelings of oppression - We see them everywhere. We are attached to our emotions like anger or pride - We cling to people: to our partners and children - We firmly believe in an opinion: "I am right and you are not" - We protect our social roles as our identity as a perfect wife or top sportsman - We stick to expectations. "All my children will bring home good grades," or goals, "I will have completed this project by 4 pm". There is nothing wrong with our identity as a parent or sportsman, and we all need goals and dreams - In trouble, we are only by clinging to it... (C. Grof)

The Buddhist word "nirvana" actually means to exhale - letting go is the basic attitude of trust... - But as our life becomes more pleasant by this, it can also be more painful and difficult - With a more conscious awareness of beauty and joy of this world, we feel less protected from its pain and ugliness... - As long as we keep our justifications and rationalizations, we suffer from health or relationship problems, low self-esteem, or the inability to find a proper place in the world - Spirituality is the direct encounter with mystic or trans-personal realms, facts which give meaning to our lives by giving them a sacred dimension. Spirituality does not need mediation by a religious authority - It is our own, intimate, personal contact with "God" (holiness) and not what anyone else can tell of the "divine". Spirituality has nothing to do with blind faith, a doctrine or belief - Although the great religions of the world have emerged from direct mystical experiences, they have often become rigid in the course of time and have become caught up in dogmas, hierarchies and politics - Organized religions can have to do something with spirituality or not - A second frequent confusion is the idea that "God" or the "higher power" is outside of us... - Mother Theresa is able to look away from illness, decay and death and to make contact with what she calls the "Christ"... - in every human being... (A. Watts)
