27.06.2001 - Interpretation of dali48

Revenge is an everyday occurrence for almost every human being. And often people are amazed that they react less tolerant than they would have expected from them - including themselves - The best revenge is to have a good time... - Quite quietly, but extremely effective, the indifferent person frustrates people by not listening to them, ignoring their needs and forgetting wishes, making them feel as disturbing intruders, denying them praise or feelings, retiring psychologically or physically... - We have all experienced this form of revenge - Every time we have to face a government agency or must trigger our towed car... - In many cases (of revenge), men learn to trigger fear - while women work with guilt feelings... (R. Barreca)

Interpretation of dali48

Revenge is an act which is intended to compensate for the injustice previously alleged or actually suffered - From its intention, it is an infliction of harm to the person (or persons) who was supposed to have done wrong. - Revenge - or the magnanimous renouncement of it - is one of the most frequent motifs of dramatic and epic literature:
The angered Achilles, in Homer's Iliad, only intervenes again in the battle for Troy, when he must avenge his fallen friend Patroclus. - The Great Ajax wants to avenge himself for the fact that Odysseus and not he has received the weapons of Achilles; beaten with madness, he rages under a flock of sheep. Sophocles in his Aias. - Medea takes revenge on Euripides' tragedy for the infidelity of Jason by burning his bride and her father and killing the common sons... One of the most terrible revenges is the legend of Wieland the blacksmith. - In the Nibelungenlied Kriemhild takes revenge for the murder of her husband Siegfried. - The song of Kudrun tries to overcome the revenge principle by means of numerous weddings, which have been mediated by the title figure, between the hitherto hostile ones (see Exogamy). - Amletus commits mass murder in the old Danish legend handed down by Saxo Grammaticus to avenge his father. - In Shakespeare's based drama Hamlet, the title figure, harassed by doubts, can only hesitate to take revenge on his father's murderer. - The revenge tragedy, based primarily on Thomas Kyd's Spanish Tragedy, becomes a genre of the Elizabethan theater. - In the genuine revenge dramas The Freygeist and Brutus by Joachim Wilhelm von Brawe the revengers forge for years lustfully at extremely complex revenge plans. - In Kleist's novella Michael Kohlhaas sets the title hero whom the healthy horses were returned emaciated and miserably, a whole country on fire. - In the Finnish town of Kalewala, after a lost contest between the singers Joukahainen and the sorcerer and singer Väinämöinen, Joukahainen avenged himself by shooting Väinämöinen's horse under the saddle during his ride through the air across the North Sea. - In the tragedy Duke Theodor of Gothland by Christian Dietrich Grabbe takes the title figure revenge for the pretended murder of her brother. - In the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, Dantès revenges himself for his innocently suffered imprisonment ... The Danish director Susanne Bier created "In a Better World", the original title "Hævnen" ("Revenge"), a filmdramatic reflection on the dialectic of revenge and forgiveness ...
