About Odysseus

1 After Troy was conquered, the victorious Greeks tried to return to their fatherland.

2 Odysseus, however, having offended Polyphemus, one of the cyclops, was put under the care of his father, who was angered, and hindered his return.

3 The love of his wife impelled Odysseus, so that for ten years, under many dangers which he undertook without fear, he roamed the waters of the sea.

4 Not even the nymph Calypso could hold on Odysseus to her island with her hot love because he longed for Penelope.

5 Finally, the Mercury whom Jupiter had sent, ordered the Nymph to release the Greeks.
