Let us always remember this feeling of appreciation for our precious human life - and we will always feel happy and never discouraged - no matter what external circumstances we are in... (DAO 3/96)

When we train our minds to be peaceful, we will always feel happy - even under the most harsh circumstances... - But if our mind is un-peaceful, then we can be in the most comfortable outer circumstances and will not be happy anyway - It is therefore important to train our mind through meditation... (Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche)

We strive for material and emotional security - devote us to pleasure or strive to achieve a good reputation - Although these things can make us happy for a short time, they are unable to give us the deep and lasting satisfaction that we long for - Sooner or later, our happiness is transformed into dissatisfaction - and we are again looking for further worldly pleasures... - Directly or indirectly, they cause mental and physical suffering - by reinforcing attachment, envy and frustration... - In addition, we often find ourselves in conflict with other creatures in the search for fulfillment of our desires... - Happiness is a state of mind - Animals can enjoy food and sex, find a home and accumulate treasures - They can subdue their enemies and protect their family but they are unable to free themselves completely from suffering - and to find lasting happiness... - Many of us who have grown up in the so-called prosperity society and can recognize that the pure pursuit of wealth - is not really a way out - We may be deep in our heart be capable to understand this decision of Siddharta Gautama... 1 "Dukkha" - life is suffering:
Birth, aging, illness, being separated from what you love - and being together with something you do not like is suffering...
2 "Samdaya" - the cause of the suffering:
Arises from the insatiable desire, the impulsiveness that always comes back into us...
3 "Nirodha" - the end of suffering:
Is the extinction of thirst, the liberation of suffering, "nirvana", being in the reality of the moment...
4 "Magga" - the way out of suffering:
This is known as the "middle way" - which avoids both extremes, on the one hand the search for contentment in sensual desires - on the other hand the path of self-torture...
