The
decisive factor that has inspired Doris Dörrie for her film "Cherry
Blossoms - Hanami" was Ozu's film "The trip to Tokyo" of 1953... - There
goes an elderly couple on a journey from West to East - and is
separated by death - She develops the story of the widowed husband... - It
was not mime, nor the attempt to portray a woman, but the visual
representation of the presence of the dead in us - The story "Cherry
Blossoms - Hanami" began for her with this idea of Butoh... -
that in all our movements, the connection to our ancestors becomes
visible - For the dead dream of us - And all the signs are small cards
that they send us - The cherry blossom (as a symbol of impermanence - has a long tradition in Japan as well as Mount Fuji... - In
March 2006 she went in search of cherry blossoms and Mount Fuji. When
she saw it she was speechless. It is supernatural. It was quite clear:
The Fuji had to be in the film and also the cherry blossom in its
impermanence shouldn't escape being captured - But slowly the natural
phenomenas that are difficult to calculate piled up for her film
project: cherry blossom - clear view of the Fuji that is almost always
