11.02.2010 - Interpretation by dali48

When our children ask us in 10 years - what we have done to combat climate change - we can not say for sure: We had known nothing about it... - Can a toaster "Made in China" only cost 9.90 euros - even though he went by ship halfway around the world? - Deep in the collective subconscious, it was clear that these cheap devices were produced at the expense of others - and at the expense of the environment - Confirmation brought reports on the rain forest clearing in Brazil - child labor in India - poverty wages in China, etc... - And who of us ever thought that the CO2 value of a new car would be an equally important reason for the purchase, such as horsepower or displacement? - Money is not neutral! - (It follows for me to invest only in ethical, social and environmental investments etc. - d.48)... - Is strategic use sufficent to solve the problems of the world and prevent a climate catastrophe? - Probably not, but it is an important contribution... - The serious attempt of a strategic lifestyle has been taken only by a small minority (only if the majority participates, could it succeed etc. - d.48), which has a combination of higher levels of education and above-average income... - Give a visible sign to succeed by buying a hybrid car (better buy electric cars etc. - d.48) is simply better than restricting meat consumption (better is to consume more vegetarian food etc. - d.48)... - Is the strategic use a rescue or mere window dressing? - The future of the global climate is not decided at the supermarket checkout - but in the parliaments and to the negotiating tables of the international climate change diplomacy (see eg Kyoto, Copenhagen etc. - d.48) ... 11.02.2010 - Interpretation of dali48

The fascination of other continents:
One of the most famous explorers in the 19th Century was the British missionary David Livingstone (1813-1873) who crossed the continent of Africa - as the first European...

After he failed to convert the African population to the Christian faith - he joined William Oswell in 1849 and traveled with him through the Kalahari Desert...

In his 30-year expedition - he discovered among other things the Zambezi River - and the Victoria Falls...

During his stay Livingstone isolated himself more and more from his home - he even developed an aversion to Europe...

In England for 3 years supposedly to be missing - he was found by HM Stanley in November 1871 in Ujiji on Lake Tanganyika...

Livingstone died of the highly dangerous bacterial dysentery - on his last journey in 1873...

To give his claim "My heart is in Africa," more expression - his heart is buried under a tree... (ARTE, 12/2009)
