11.02.2010 - Interpretation of dali48

The fascination of other continents:
One of the most famous explorers in the 19th Century was the British missionary David Livingstone (1813-1873) who crossed the continent of Africa - as the first European...

After he failed to convert the African population to the Christian faith - he joined William Oswell in 1849 and traveled with him through the Kalahari Desert...

In his 30-year expedition - he discovered among other things the Zambezi River - and the Victoria Falls...

During his stay Livingstone isolated himself more and more from his home - he even developed an aversion to Europe...

In England for 3 years supposedly to be missing - he was found by HM Stanley in November 1871 in Ujiji on Lake Tanganyika...

Livingstone died of the highly dangerous bacterial dysentery - on his last journey in 1873...

To give his claim "My heart is in Africa," more expression - his heart is buried under a tree... (ARTE, 12/2009)
