19.08.2009 - Interpretation of dali48

Contrary to the animals, which are determined by fixed instincts and patterns of action, man must still seek his own patterns of action: "Existence precedes the being." - This fact, Sartre said, had always been misunderstood by the theologians and philosophers - The only existential existence in man is his feeling: the disgust, the anxiety, the care, the boredom and the feeling of the absurd (see S. Beckett etc. - d.48)... - Sartre called his philosophy existentialism... - Sartre's life remained exciting until his death in 1980 - He was the most important French intellectual of the 20th century, and a much respected moral authority. However, his perception of man's freedom was realistic. Is the individual really so free from inner and outer constraints that he can design himself as the artist does his work of art? - It was no wonder that the total exertion of existentialism had to be just as outmoded as the Christian model of "loving others as themselves" - or the psychological overburdens of socialism... - Whether I can realize myself is also depending on my material freedom, i.e. my financial possibilities... - The question of freedom through - and the dependence on property... (R.D. Precht)

"Nothing fills the human imagination and captures human passions as much as the right to property - the exclusive and despotic rule which a man claims and exercises over the external things of this world - and thereby excludes every right of every other individual in this universe... (W. Blackstone)
