Sometimes, we blame ourselves for the behaviour of others, and we curl us inside ourselves, letting our worlds be caved in, and are allowing the storm to rage outside. We need others at times in order to lift us up, to face the winds, and to get our feet solid on the ground. We need to give up the toxic shame that belongs to them who had passed it on us, to free ourselves of feelings of shame and unworthiness. In our weakened state of mind we give up the ground which we have gained to fall into a darker pit of misery, and we become frustrated.
It was on Saturday morning. I was dressing the children for a walk in the park when the knock came to the door. Answering it I came face to face with Danny and the Army Chaplin. The Chaplin smiled and introduced himself and asked if he and Danny could talk with me awhile. The baby started to cry, so I held him on my lap. Danny was looking at us, biting his lip. "See how blond he is," Danny said. He was speaking to the Chaplin. "Well, yes he is, and he looks like his Mom." The Chaplin explained that Danny wanted to be a better dad and a good husband, and had been seeing him for a few months. I was trembling and my belly was hard and sore. I remained quiet and waited to hear the whole story. "Danny has anger and jealously problems which he has to take care of, and we were hoping that you would meet with us from time to time."
I knew in my heart that I did not want this, but somehow during these sessions that went on for three months I was finding myself saying that Danny could come home...
