So we must be able to discern what relates to truth and what relates to mere gratification of the senses - Not that sense gratification is untrue - but it does not lead us to deep insight, but stops at the transience of our sensory impressions. Trust rises in us when we see that those who know and understand the teachings no longer react with hatred and greed - The Buddha was a realist, a pragmatist. He knew exactly what kind of difficulties we have: on the one ear in, on the other out - As soon as you have memorized what you heard, so remember very well - you should think about its meaning - Again the Buddha knows us very well - we are really only interested in something of importance to ourselves - The interest in other things is quite superficial - even though we think to be so altruistically and believe we wanted the world do something good - Self-reproaches and remorse have no meaning (see Edith Piaf, "je ne regrette rien" etc. - d.48) - Everyone has the same difficulties, and the luck is to know - which way we have to go - Most people do not even know what to do - They still believe they have to change things outside - At the time of the Buddha there were also wars - At the time of Jesus there were much more. The world can not be changed - only one's own heart - The moment we are changed - the world changes with and through us, because we are part of the world - Then you see completely otherwise, because the inner view has a new perspective - That does not mean we should not help - Helpfulness purifies your own heart - "What is dear to us makes us suffer," said the Buddha to him. "What a nonsense", exclaimed the man indignantly and ran away - He himself was the proof that exactly what the Buddha spoke of had happened to him - He still could not recognize it - This is how we are - If we were to recognize everything constantly - we would not need to practice anymore ...
