Tao & 2 aspects / Zen & nature of things etc. by dali48
dali48 and private tuition and writing diary3 and cycling and photographing in Erkrath till 5/2010
Interpretation of dali48
The two most important aspects to understand the “Tao” are:
1 That nothing happens ever the same again…
2 This huge fabric consists of permanent changes - but doesn’t change itself. It is the archetype of time, being and nonbeing inclusive (see life and death, etc. - d.48), the present, the future and the past. - It's the big picture of ongoing duration, boundless space and endless change… (P. Rawson / L. Legeza)
Since “Zen” targets its view over the symbols out on the things themselves - it recognizes all our prejudices about skin color, gender, and age and all other culture-related doctrines as a pure work of man - as not belonging properly to the nature of things… (S. W. Holmes / C. Horioka)
“Zen” means fusion of Buddhism and Shintoism. Everything exists according to its own nature. - Our individual perceptions of value, accuracy, beauty and dimension exist only in our head (so the head should be cleaned out, etc. - d.48), nowhere else...
Man is a child of nature and gets along best when he works hand in hand with it rather than to dominate it (see e.g. wgg shared Monsanto Exposed's photo - Why bees are dying by the billions etc. - d.48)...
Security and immutability are chimeras of the “ego” - dominated consciousness and do not exist in nature. To accept the uncertainty and yield (? - d.48) to the unknown - creates a saving faith in “the whole”...
One can only live in the present moment...
The lively scene and the words about it are not the same and should not be treated as equal...
Fields and mountains, the snow took them away. - Nothing remains… (A haiku by Yoso)
But in all events, there is no permanent unchanging soul. - Do not quarrel with this idea. Simply give space to it. - And then enjoy the peace that it brings with it...
Rainy season! The entrance flooded, and splashing frogs are there… (Sampu)
The moon drifted in a cloud: “Should I not borrow me - a small juicy melon?”… (Shiki)
There is no “ego” - in the sense of a persistent, unchanging soul or personality, who temporarily lives in a body...
The lively “ego” is constantly changing. - Live now! Accept yourself - as you are now! No one is only blamed or only praised...
Because of this “ego” is purely imaginary, - we can easily ascribe to it a stable and eternal nature. Our need for security leads us to believe that fact. If the “ego” is the center of our world, - the acceptance of its mortality would make shake our whole world...
In short, we pay for the illusion of an unchanging “ego” - in that we have to constantly litigate against our environment...
The water is flowing. - We are living (i.e. living means flowing, etc. - d.48)...
The last nightingale sings in a thicket of young bamboo - a song of age… (Basho)
True insight comes not from special knowledge, - not from membership of the exclusive circles of doctrines and dogmas. - It arises from unconscious intuitions of what we truly are, - from our original wisdom...
No more oil in order to read (see electricity today, etc. - d.48), so off to bed...
Ah! My moonlight-pillow… (Basho)
You silly scarecrow! Just below your feet - the birds peck the rice… (Yayu)
Their names I do not know, but every weed - has its delicate flower... (Sampu)
Samuel Beckett and meaninglessness & existential dilemma etc. by dali48
dali48 and menaced private tuition since 1989, and writing diary3 and photographing in Erkrath till 5/2010 Interpretation of dali48
Samuel Beckett (1906-1989) is an Irish novelist and playwright, one of the great names of Absurd Theatre with Eugene Ionesco - although a recent study regards Beckett as a postmodernist…
His plays are concerned with human suffering and survival, - and his characters are struggling with meaninglessness - and the world of the Nothing...
Beckett was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969...
In his writings for the theater Beckett showed influence of burlesque, vaudeville, the music hall, “comedia dell'arte”, and the silent-film of such figures as Keaton and Chaplin...
“We are all born mad. - Some remain so.” (We are all born mentally sane, see "tabula rasa" - some remain so, ca. 25 - 33%, in a mad society, see e.g. Germany, 1933 - 1945, see Russia 2022 etc. – d.48)... (From Waiting for Godot, 1952)
Beckett was born in Dublin into a prosperous Protestant family. - His father, William Beckett Jr, was a surveyor...
Beckett's mother, Mary Rose, had worked as a nurse - before marriage...
He was educated at the Portora Royal School and Trinity College, Dublin, where he took a B.A. degree in 1927 - having specialized in French and Italian...
Beckett worked as a teacher in Belfast and lecturer in English in Paris - During this time he became a friend of James Joyce...
After his father died, Beckett received an annuity that enabled him to settle in London - where he underwent psychoanalysis (1935 - 1936)...
In 1938 he was hospitalized from a stab he had received from a pimp to whom he had refused to give money - Around this time he met Suzanne Dechevaux-Dumesnil, - a piano-student, whom he married in 1961...
When WWII broke out, Beckett was in Ireland, but he hastened to Paris and joined a Resistance network - Sought by the Nazis, he fled with Suzanne to Southern France, where he remained in hiding in the village of Roussillon 2.5 years. - Beckett worked as country laborer...
After the war Beckett worked briefly with the Irish Red Cross in St. Lo in Normandy...
These books (Molloy, Malone Meurt, L'innommable, 1950) reflected Beckett's bitter realization - that there is no escape from illusions and from Cartesian compulsion to think, to try to solve insoluble mysteries...
Beckett was obsessed by a desire to create what he called “a literature of the noneword” - He waged a lifelong war on words, trying to yield the silence that underlines them...
2 tramps, Vladimir and Estragon, who call each other Gogo and Didi - meet themselves near a bare tree on a country road. They wait for the promised arrival of Godot, whose name could refer to 'God' - or also the French name for Charlie Chaplin, 'Charlot'...
Godot sends word that he will not come that day - but will surely come the next...
Without Godot, their world does not have purpose - but suicide is not the solution to their existential dilemma… (PAC)
