After living most of his life in exile, it is no surprise - that Milosz wanted to spend his last years in Cracow...
Although his works were banned in Poland during his exile in Europe and the U.S. - they reached Polish readers by several secret ways, even long before he won the Nobel Prize...
In a solemn ceremony Milosz was handed over a symbolic key to the city of Krakow in the mid-90s, - and he got a newly renovated apartment...
My experience has taught me that one never so clearly recognizes one's own culture as when it is reflected in a different culture...
After a brief respite between the two world wars (I and II), Poland lost its statehood again in 1939...
