Pain motivates the individual to withdraw from damaging situations, to protect a damaged body part while it heals, and to avoid similar experiences in the future... Pain is the most common reason for physician consultation in the United States (see Germany, Europe etc. - d.48). It is a major symptom in many medical conditions, and can significantly interfere with a person's quality of life and general functioning... Management of chronic pain, however, is much more difficult and may require the coordinated efforts of a pain management team... A 2007 review of 13 studies found evidence for the efficacy of hypnosis in the reduction of pain in some conditions... Depression may also keep the older adult from reporting they are in pain. The older adult may also quit doing activities they love because it hurts too much. Decline in self-care activities (dressing, grooming, walking, etc.) may also be indicators that the older adult is experiencing pain... When a person is non-verbal and cannot self report pain, observation becomes critical, and specific behaviors can be monitored as pain indicators... Gender can also be a factor in reporting pain. Gender differences are usually the result of social and cultural expectations... (Wikipedia)

Leibniz and Universal Spirit etc. by dali48 on HP
29.12.2009 - Interpretation of dali48
Leibniz - the universal spirit. From the monad to "God": Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646 - 1716), is considered one of the most versatile scholars of his time and was one of the most important philosophers of the late 17th and early 18th century. About himself he once wrote: "When I awoke I had so many ideas that the day was not enough to write them down... Leibniz, who invented himself a computing machine that paved the way for it in the modern sense - the computer. He discovered that computational processes can be carried out easily with a binary number encoding, and also that this can be combined using the binary number code, the principles of arithmetic with the principles of logic...
Leibniz, Forefather of Enlightenment, formulated early maxims of rationalism. Quote: "Every person has a reasonable ability to conduct"! When religion and reason match - it would create a true religion (see religion and science, without dogma and corruption, etc. - d.48)... (Rhine Post 29.12.2009)
Interpretation of dali48
Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646 – 1716) was a German mathematician and philosopher. He wrote in several languages, but primarily in Latin, French and German... Leibniz occupies a prominent place in the history of mathematics and the history of philosophy. He developed the infinitesimal calculus independently of Isaac Newton, and Leibniz's mathematical notation has been widely used ever since it was published. He became one of the most prolific inventors in the field of mechanical calculators. While working on adding automatic multiplication and division to Pascal's calculator, he was the first to describe a pinwheel calculator in 1685 and invented the Leibniz wheel, used in the arithmometer, the first mass-produced mechanical calculator. He also refined the binary number system, which is at the foundation of virtually all digital computers. In philosophy, Leibniz is mostly noted for his optimism, e.g., his conclusion that our Universe is, in a restricted sense, the best possible one that “God” could have created. Leibniz, along with René Descartes and Baruch Spinoza, was one of the three great 17th century advocates of rationalism. The work of Leibniz anticipated modern logic and analytic philosophy, but his philosophy also looks back to the scholastic tradition, in which conclusions are produced by applying reason to first principles or prior definitions rather than to empirical evidence. Leibniz made major contributions to physics and technology, and anticipated notions that surfaced much later in biology, medicine, geology, probability theory, psychology, linguistics, and information science. He wrote works on politics, law, ethics, theology, history, philosophy, and philology. Leibniz's contributions to this vast array of subjects were scattered in various learned journals, in tens of thousands of letters, and in unpublished manuscripts. As of 2012, there is no complete gathering of the writings of Leibniz... (Wikipedia)

Interpretation of dali48
Frédéric François Chopin (1810 – 1849) was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of French-Polish parentage. He is considered one of the great masters of Romantic music. Chopin was born in Żelazowa Wola, a village in the Duchy of Warsaw. A renowned child-prodigy pianist and composer, Chopin grew up in Warsaw and completed his music education there; he composed many mature works in Warsaw before leaving Poland in 1830 at age 20, shortly before the November 1830 Uprising... Following the Russian suppression of the Uprising, he settled in Paris as part of Poland's Great Emigration. During the remaining 19 years of his life, Chopin gave only some 30 public performances, preferring the more intimate atmosphere of the salon; he supported himself by sales of his compositions and as a piano teacher. After some romantic dalliances with Polish women, including an abortive engagement, from 1837 to 1847 he carried on a relationship with the French writer Amantine Dupin (pen name "George Sand"). For most of his life, Chopin suffered from poor health; he died in Paris in 1849 at age 39...
Chopin's father, Nicolas Chopin, was a Frenchman from Lorraine who immigrated to Poland in 1787 at the age of sixteen... Others in Chopin's family were musically talented. Chopin's father played the flute and violin; his mother played the piano and gave lessons to boys in the elite boarding house that the Chopins maintained. As a result Chopin became conversant with music in its various forms at an early age... Józef Sikorski, a musician and Chopin's contemporary, recalls in his Memoirs about Chopin that, as a child, Chopin wept with emotion when his mother played the piano. By six, he was already trying to reproduce what he heard or make up new melodies. He received his earliest piano lessons not from his mother but from his older sister Ludwika (in English, "Louise")... Seven-year-old "little Chopin" (Szopenek) began giving public concerts that soon prompted comparisons with Mozart as a child and with Beethoven... In 1913, French musicologist and Chopin biographer Édouard Ganche would write that this painting of the precocious composer showed "a youth threatened by tuberculosis. His skin is very white, he has a prominent Adam's apple and sunken cheeks, even his ears show a form characteristic of consumptives." Chopin's younger sister Emilia had already died of tuberculosis at the age of fourteen, and their father would succumb to the same disease in 1844... At a comparable age, Bach, Mozart and Beethoven had still been apprentices, while Chopin was perceived by peers and audiences to be already a master who was pointing the path to the coming age... His precarious health prevented his touring extensively as a traveling virtuoso, and beyond playing once in Rouen, he seldom ventured out of the capital... His high income from teaching and composing freed him from the strains of concert-giving, to which he had an innate repugnance. Arthur Hedley has observed that "As a pianist Chopin was unique in acquiring a reputation of the highest order on the basis of a minimum of public appearances—few more than thirty in the course of his lifetime"... In 1835 Chopin went to Carlsbad, where, for the last time in his life, he met with his parents... Chopin proposed marriage to Maria. She accepted, and her mother Countess Wodzińska approved in principle, but Maria's tender age and Chopin's tenuous health (in the winter of 1835–1836 he had been so ill that word had circulated in Warsaw that he had died) forced an indefinite postponement of the wedding. The engagement remained a secret to the world and never led to the altar... (Wikipedia)
