The healing properties of marshmallow were already described in the 9th century BC. The active ingredients sit in the roots. - Powdered roots can be processed into a sweet paste, and taken for sore throat, hoarseness or coughing. - Previously, one gave the root to chewing "babysitting" infants. Dried root pieces are the oldest cough sweets. - Healing is also achieved through the tea, which is prepared as a cold extract from the root. It helps in diseases of the respiratory tract and urinary tract, as well as in gastric and intestinal catarrh. - According to Pliny, a paste from the leaves reduces the risk of infection in injuries caused by thorns.
