Part 93... by Golden Snow
I just wanted to be alone but did not want to hurt his feelings. I returned to the living room where he had two bowels of soup and crackers. I must admit that the soup tasted good. There were not too many tender moments in my life, and I remember the good ones. The father was kind and concerned. I was blessed to have someone to care for me. It is good to stand on ones own feet but sometimes we need help to keep us moving. I knew it was time to tell the Father that he should go back to town. I needed the time alone and get myself ready for work. We had a talk after dinner and when we finished I asked him to leave, so I could get used to being on my own. He did not look happy but agreed.
I was afraid when I was alone but I read books by the fire, and just stayed there and slept off and on all night. I had a couple of days before I went back to work, and I walked and tried to make some sense of my life. I could not live in fear. I called my Mother one night, and she said: "Golden, just leave it all and come up with me." She was not with my step father now. She looked after a gentleman who was in a wheel chair.
A few days later I received a call from one of my sons. He said that his dad wanted me to come over and see him. He said that he was in bad shape. I called the Father and told him the news. He said that it might be better if he went with me. He picked me up after work, and we both entered the mental hospital together...
