- while I can't speak for Nan I suspect that her comment was intended
as satirical rather than fact. If I recall Alfred Nobel, the man who
invented dynamite and made his fortune from it in the 19th century and
then in his will left a chunk of his fortune to be used to fund the
Nobel prizes. As to the Peace Prize itself, I vaguely remember reading
somewhere that Nobel was an idealist and pacifist and created the prize
to encourage and reward those who advanced the cause of peace in the
world.
