At the outbreak of the Second World War he was the Yugoslav ambassador in Berlin - Only a few hours after his return to Belgrade, the city was bombed by German planes - Forced to retreat during the German occupation - Andric nevertheless managed to survive - and to write 3 remarkable novels...
